Assistive Technology assessments in North Shore
Assistive Technology (AT) includes any equipment or device that supports a person with disability or injury to complete everyday tasks more safely, independently, and confidently. From mobility aids and seating to bathroom equipment and communication supports, assistive technology can be used at home, at work, and in the community to improve participation and quality of life.
At Integral Occupational Therapy, our Occupational Therapists provide Assistive Technology assessments in North Shore including Chatswood and surrounding suburbs, supporting NDIS participants of all ages. An AT assessment may be helpful if you are:
Replacing existing assistive technology due to changes in your health or needs
Using AT funding in your current NDIS plan to achieve your goals
Requesting additional AT funding in an upcoming NDIS plan review
Unsure which type of assistive technology is the right fit for you
To help you access the right solution, our experienced OTs deliver comprehensive, person-centred AT assessments in North Shore and nearby suburbs such as Chatswood, Willoughby, Artarmon, Lane Cove, Lindfield and Roseville for NDIS participants. We consider your physical and cognitive abilities, daily routines, environments, and personal goals. This enables us to recommend assistive technology that is practical, appropriate, and fully aligned with NDIS requirements, so equipment genuinely supports your everyday life.

FAQs
1. What is an Assistive Technology (AT) assessment?
An Assistive Technology assessment is completed by an Occupational Therapist to identify equipment that best supports your safety, independence, and daily goals. It considers how you move, think, and live in your real environments—at home, work, and in the community—so recommendations are practical, personalised, and NDIS-aligned.
2. What ages do you work with?
We support children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. Our Assistive Technology assessments are tailored across the lifespan, from children who need equipment to support learning and play, to adults seeking greater independence at home or in the community. As Occupational Therapists, we consider age, environment, daily roles, and NDIS goals to ensure each AT recommendation is practical, safe, and meaningful at every stage of life.
3. Do you only assess, or do you support me through the whole process?
At Integral Occupational Therapy, we provide support beyond the assessment itself. Our Occupational Therapists organise and guide equipment trials, so you can test options in real-life settings such as your home, school, or community. This helps confirm fit, comfort, safety, and usability before any recommendations are finalised.
We also assist with NDIS-aligned reporting, liaise with suppliers when needed, and provide training for you and your supports. Our aim is not just to recommend equipment, but to walk alongside you from assessment through to implementation—so assistive technology truly works in your everyday life.
4. Where do you provide AT assessments?
We provide Assistive Technology assessments in North Shore including Chatswood, Artarmon, Willoughby, Lane Cove, Lindfield, Gordon, St Ives and surrounding areas. Appointments can be clinic-based but most likely be completed in your home or community, where equipment will be used, so recommendations are accurate and meaningful.
5. How long does it take to receive my assistive technology after the assessment?
The timeframe can vary depending on the type of equipment, funding pathway, and supplier availability. After your Assistive Technology assessment, your Occupational Therapist will prepare an NDIS-aligned report and recommendations as soon as possible.
For lower-cost items already approved in your plan, equipment may be ordered and received within a few weeks. For higher-cost or more complex items that require NDIS approval, the process can take longer, as funding decisions and quotes are needed before orders can proceed.
At Integral Occupational Therapy, we support you through each step, such as completing clear reports, coordinating trials, and guiding you and working with your support coordinator through the NDIS process. Our aim is to minimise delays and help you access the right assistive technology as efficiently as possible, so support can begin in everyday life.
